Hey everyone!
It has been a very long time since I lasted posted, but now that classes are out, I plan to post at least twice a week! Summer is the perfect time to get prepared for the next school year, so today, I'm sharing a few items I had in my dorm room that really made a difference in comfort. This is not an exhaustive dorm room shopping list by any means. If you're interested in the list I used when shopping for my first dorm room, click here. These are just a few things that I enjoyed the most from my room this past year.
1. Keurig/hot water heater.
Since my junior year of high school, I've almost always had a Keurig in my room. It's great for a quick cup of coffee, but it also supplies hot water for tea, noodles, oatmeal, and whatever else you would need. I have this model, and I use a resusable cup like this one to be more eco-friendly.
2. Surge protector
My college dorm rooms have been pretty well-stocked on outlets, but a good surge protector is great to have. They can be inexpensive like this one, or you can spend a little more for a more flexible and stylish one.
3. Roku Stick
My streaming stick was probably my favorite thing from my last room. I connected my stick with my account from my cable provider to watch all my favorite shows and to have background noise while I studied. I used this one from Roku, but I have also heard good things about other sticks from Amazon, Google, and others.
4. Wall Art
Wall art and decorations make all the difference in making your room feel more like home. Whether you have art prints, pictures, letters from friends, or anything else, something to hang on your walls to hide that blank space (or ugly cinderblock) will add some comfort to your room. For a quick wall art DIY, check out my post here.
5. Lights
For more added comfort, I used lights around my bed. They were great for nights when I wanted to read or watch tv without the brightness of the room light, and mine were very inexpensive from Amazon.
6. Throw blankets
I get very cold all the time, so having a blanket on top of my comforter was essential. Walmart has really soft and warm ones that I buy every year for a low price.
7. Bulletin board
Bulletin boards are great for keeping your life organized and for adding more decorations. I love to tack my to-do lists, photos, and cards to brighten my desk and keep my assignments in front of my face. My room came with a board already, but this one is at a great price, too.
Those were my favorite things from my room this year, and I'll keep you all posted on my YouTube channel as I get ready to move into my apartment for this summer and next fall. Keep checking out the blog for new posts and subscribe by email to be alerted every time I post something new!
