My Grownup Checklist

Hey everyone!

Aside from it being back-to-school season, this month of August is particularly exciting to me because it's my last month as a teenager. On September 5 at precisely 12:25 pm, I will officially be a twentysomething! I'm looking forward to the next stage of my life as an almost-adult.

Of course, as I get older, I start prioritizing different things in my life. I'm starting to think more seriously about things like careers and credit and not so much about celebrity couples and reality television (really, who am I kidding?). With all that being said, I thought today I'd share my "Grownup Checklist."

My Grownup Checklist:

1. Apply (and get hired) to my dream job
I can't wait until the day when I'm qualified enough to go for my dream job. It must be a wonderful feeling to not only know what you want to do, but also to be confident enough in your ability to go out on a ledge and make things happen.

2. Visit every continent
So far, I've been blessed enough to set foot on four continents. I have three more to go before I start making my rounds again. Scratch that, I have two more; Antarctica isn't happening.

3. Live solo in my own apartment
I've had some great roommates over the past few years. No shade to them, though, I can't wait to live on my own in a chic apartment where no one can judge me for watching Disney movies and As Told by Ginger all night until the heavy weight of adulthood tears me down.

4. Write & produce my first show
If you've known me for a while, you probably know that I love writing and film. And you probably know a few stories involving me that would make a great plot. Whether it be on television network or a streaming site, I hope to someday have a hit show on a major platform.

5. Develop a strong community of supporters
My favorite thing about having a blog and YouTube channel is all the support I receive and the digital pals I've made. I can't wait to watch that community grow someday when I'm able to fully commit and post consistently.

6. Live in NYC
I've always wanted to live in New York since I was a little kid (crazy since I've never visited), even if it's just for a short period of time. Maybe I'll hate it, but I'm young and can change my mind.

7. Maintain a strong credit score
This is definitely something that I just started thinking about in the past few months. I'm a perfectionist, so not having a near perfect score is driving me crazy. Still, I'm confused with many aspects of earning and maintaining a strong credit score, so I'm doing the best I can.

8. Say goodbye to student loans
I'm a barely a college sophomore, and I am in almost no debt. At any rate, the idea of being in absolutely no debt excites me, and I can't wait to let that cloud float away.

9. Start planning for retirement
Okay, I know, I know. I'm not even 20 yet, but listen, I want to be prepared for when (or if) the beautiful day comes when can I sit on my couch and get back to those Disney movies and buy things online. As the nice girl in the Drake song says so eloquently, "I just like extremely expensive things."

While most of my items are fun ideas typical of a young adult bucket list, a few of them are on the more serious side. As a college student, it really is important to start thinking about finances and how the choices you make now with your money will affect you in the future. I've come across a few helpful websites to help me through the confusing world of money, and one that I'd like to share is Personal Capital.  I love their resources that make it easy to compare my income to my spending (yikes) and their Wealth Management Tool, which I use to prepare for retirement and manage the little funds I get. 10/10 would recommend that you all check it out!

Okay, everyone! That's all for today's post, but I hope you come again for your regular dose of Maya. Let me know what's on your grownup checklist!

See ya,
Maya
